I just started doing something to better engage students.  For example, we just completed plastic repair.  First I presented the I-Car PowerPoint and worksheets for those modules.  Then I shifted the class to a student centered environment.  I had them work as a group to think of some good questions and research the answers.  I then had two students create a PowerPoint and present a lesson for plastic repair.  I think this really motivated them to learn.  I am going to try it again with my next class.  By the way, this is a good forum for your students to collaborate with other students.  It makes a great learning tool.  Maybe you could make it an assignment for your student create a user name and introduce them self here.  Any other suggestions?

Can I make a suggestion as a student?

One thing that helps me is hands on participation. Actually being able to do the work and seeing the results after doing the task. The more of that there is, the more you've got my full 100% attention.

I've gone to several classes where there was more emphasis on written materials than demonstrations of what the materials were about.

Does that help?

Great Point!  I think most students do learn by doing.  We spend about 70% of our time in the lab.  Thanks for pointing that out. Smiley

ShockedWe give students gratuitys, Students who show comendable efforts on any repair will be given a small reward of 10-20 $. We also make sure that the vehicle owner gets a chance to speak to the student repairers. One project that I found to work well is our simple fender repair projects, we take donated fenders and cut them in half retaining only the front, which is damaged and taken threw the repair process, student who get to the final prepaired surface can custom paint their small fender and take it home these things have become a source of pride for students and they cover many skill areas. We have resently in our news letter listed the fender of the year showing a photo and listing the students name. Lastly all projects are documented with photos stapled to documented sheets explaining the students acomplisment for the student portfio,s.  Roll Eyes
