Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Office Manager

Description

Responsible for a broad scope of accounting, clerical, and management duties. Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, human resource functions, and compliance paperwork. May include supervision of receptionists, clerks, and human resource personnel.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Must enjoy working with numbers, reports, and computers. Requires working in an office environment, close attention to detail, and patience. Communication, organization, and time management skills are essential. Must be a team player and work well with people.

 

Job Outlook

Businesses need competent control of income, expenses, and debt management to operate profitably. Every collision repair business must manage the books, so there are opportunities in every business and even more positions in the larger ones.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

Reading, math, and accounting skills are essential. A high school education is required with post-secondary education in accounting and business management recommended. Experience in bookkeeping and office management is also important. Familiarity with automotive businesses, insurance industries, and government regulations helpful.

 

Earnings

Depending on sales volume, location, and responsibilities, earnings can be from $40,000 and up.

 

Career Path

Advancement to office manager is generally from office clerical positions. Future positions could be to a larger collision repair business or new car dealership office. Opportunities are also available in the insurance, manufacturer, and distributor industries.
