Description

Reviews and approves feature and technical articles prior to publication in industry magazines, association newsletters, and informational websites. Validates research for accuracy. Looks for appropriate content, style, and grammar in technical materials submitted for publication. May suggest improvements or re-write sections of articles for better clarity, precision, or purpose.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Must enjoy research and writing. Must be able to read large volumes of material with a critical eye. Needs excellent communication skills, both oral and written, a large vocabulary, and extensive knowledge of grammar. Must have good patience and editing skills.

 

Job Outlook

The need for technical information increases as new vehicle and material technologies keep advancing. Interesting and concise technical articles are the most valuable and helpful for busy professionals. Editors who can produce good, relevant information in an effective manner will always be in demand.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

Math, reading, and science are helpful to understand technical matters, writing styles, and proper grammar. A college education and prior experience in research and writing is required with experience in collision repair recommended.

 

Earnings

Earnings may start between $40,000 to $50,000 depending on experience and responsibilities and increase with proven abilities and additional areas of expertise.
