Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Marketing Specialist

Description

This position works within a vehicle manufacturer’s parts distribution department. Develops and coordinates sales promotions, marketing tools, and customer support services for promoting original equipment parts to new car dealerships and vehicle owners to increase market share. Develops and maintains research information on parts sales, dealership sales, and regional performance.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Requires excellent reading, math, and computer skills. Must enjoy working with research, technical products, and sales. Must have good writing, communication, and presentation skills. Must be self-motivated and comfortable working in a structured office environment.

 

Job Outlook

With larger numbers of vehicles being sold and driven every year, replacement parts will continue to be needed and original equipment needs to be promoted as first choice. With healthy competition in the marketplace, an effective marketing campaign is critical and capable people are essential to making that happen.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

A college degree in marketing or business is required and advanced education is encouraged. Understanding of replacement parts and the repair marketplace are essential. Experience in research and marketing plan development would make for an ideal candidate.

 

Earnings

This is an upper level staff position, requiring additional experience and knowledge, and starting salaries from $45,000 to $55,000 are common. Increased earnings follow increased abilities and results.

 

Career Path

This position usually follows from other manufacturer’s staff positions. Knowledge of dealership operations is important, but can be learned on the job. This experience could lead toward management positions within or outside of the vehicle manufacturer.

 

Continuing Education

Internal manufacturer education programs or post-graduate colleges for additional specialized education.
