Description
Also called wholesale, this position takes orders and follows through on orders to automotive repair businesses. Communicates with technicians, foremen, and managers, usually by phone, fax, or on-line. Creates invoices, works with computer systems, and may help collect account receivables.

Must enjoy working with people, numbers, and computers. Must have good communication and phone skills. Requires working in an office environment, close attention to detail, and patience. Must be a team player and work well with people, both customers and employees.

Good customer relations are important to a successful business and this position is critical toward that goal. The right parts delivered on-time is an important part of that. A well-qualified and competent person will always be in demand.
Pre-Employment Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required with advanced education recommended. Prior parts or customer relations work is preferred. Good reading, math, and problem solving skills are essential. Should have a basic working knowledge of automotive repair and computer functions.
Earnings
Depending on location and size of business, earnings may start between $25,000 and $30,000. Benefits may include insurance, pension plans, and holidays.
Career Path
This is generally an entry-level position, although some prior experience is helpful. This position can lead to an outside sales or management position.
Continuing Education
Sales, computer, and automotive training is available through local seminars or schools. Technical training for parts information and research may be available through part manufacturers. Certification is available through ASE.
