Description

New vehicle manufacturers supply replacement parts for their vehicles and they must be designed, built, and distributed. Coordinates needs from manufacturer, parts distribution department, and dealership service personnel. Helps determine new parts to add and obsolete parts to delete from the supply chain. Develops specifications, packaging, and testing before releasing replacement parts for use in repairing vehicles.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Requires good reading, math, science, and computer skills. Must enjoy working with technical products, design specs, and statistical reports. Must have good writing, communication, and research skills. Must be able to analyze data and present findings.

 

Job Outlook

As manufacturers have increasing numbers of vehicles being operated, replacement parts become more important. Having the right part available at the right place at the right time is important for efficient vehicle repair. It is also important for customer satisfaction and loyalty. This specialized position will always be in-demand.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

College education required with engineering degree. In-depth understanding of design and testing is essential. Minimum 5 years of related technical experience are required, especially in manufacturing.
