Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Store Manager

Description

Responsible for the overall profitability and return on investment of their parts store. Manages inventory, sales representatives, and store personnel. Insures compliance with all laws, policies, and procedures. Maintains a clean, safe, attractive, and efficient work environment and business atmosphere. Represents store to the local market area in a professional manner. Maintains a positive working relationship with manufacturer’s representatives.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Must enjoy working with people, be comfortable in a leadership role, and working in a sales environment. Must be self-motivated and have good communication skills. Must possess an analytical approach to problem solving. Must be able to develop and maintain ethical business relationships.

 

Job Outlook

With more vehicles and more miles driven every year, repairs are inevitable and replacement parts are needed. Every repairer needs a reliable source of quality parts and parts manufacturers need local sales outlets. Managing a quality parts store is a service to the local automotive repair market and will always be in demand.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

A high school education is required with a four-year college degree recommended. Business management or sales education is encouraged. Should have three to five years of experience in automotive repair or distributor sales and management. Bilingual skills are a plus.

 

Earnings

Depending on size of market, inventory, and profitability, earnings may start between $40,000 and $50,000 with a well-run store in a growing market expecting even greater earnings.

 

Career Path

This position is usually filled from a sales position. As a management position, these skills can easily transfer to other positions in automotive repair businesses, new car dealerships, part manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers, and educational organizations.

 

Continuing Education

Internal company and manufacturer education programs for advancement or to meet state and local licensing requirements. Outside training through local colleges or organizations including I-CAR and AMI.
