Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Customer Service Representative

Description

Works the phones and rental counter to assist customers rent cars and trucks. Responsible for taking customer information, providing an appropriate and correct rental agreement, and making sure the customer is satisfied with his or her rental. Handles invoices, billing, and reports according to rental location procedures.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Must enjoy working with people, be comfortable working in a sales environment, and have good communication skills. Must have good customer service skills and be able to problem solve quickly.

 

Job Outlook

Rental cars and trucks are in high demand and there is good competition for rental customers. A quality rental business will seek out and employ the best customer service representatives to properly address all customers’ needs.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

A high school education is preferred with post-secondary education recommended. Some experience in the automotive or collision repair industries is helpful. Bilingual skills are a plus.

 

Earnings

Depending on size of market and location, earnings may start between $20,000 and $30,000 with a well-run rental operation in a growing market expecting even greater earnings.

 

Career Path

This is an entry-level sales position. Sales skills can easily transfer to other positions in collision repair businesses, new car dealerships, paint manufacturers, and vehicle manufacturers.

 

Continuing Education

Internal company programs and outside colleges for business administration, sales, or customer service are available to improve skills needed to advance in this position.
