Description
Contacts current and potential customers to sell towing service and make sure it is done to the customer’s satisfaction. Travels in market area to large customer locations, including insurance companies, fleet operations, and municipal accounts. Creates service agreements, invoices, works with insurance procedures as needed.
Personal Characteristics and Skills
Must enjoy working with people, numbers, and computers in a sales environment. Must have good communication and phone skills. Requires working outside an office and in an unstructured environment. Must be a self-starter to develop new business accounts and a good communicator to maintain existing customers.

Pre-Employment Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required with advanced education recommended. Prior experience in the towing service business is important. Prior experience in outside sales is recommended.
Earnings
Depending on location and size of business, earnings may start between $30,000 and $35,000 with increases dependent on performance. Benefits may include insurance, pension plans, and holidays.
Career Path
This position can result from a tow truck operator position or an outside service/sales position. This position can lead to larger sales responsibilities or management positions.
Continuing Education
Sales, computer, and insurance training is available through local seminars or schools. Technical training for vehicle construction and repair is available through I-CAR, towing equipment manufacturers, and supply companies.
