Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Line Supervisor

Description

Responsible for the performance of a certain portion of the vehicle assembly process. Manages inventory, assembly line workers, and maintenance. Insures compliance with work rules and production goals. Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Maintains a positive working relationship with employees.


Personal Characteristics and Skills

Requires good reading, math, and computer skills. Must enjoy working with people, be comfortable in a leadership role, and working in a production environment. Must have good communication skills and be able to write clear comprehensive reports.


Job Outlook

As the high demand for new cars and trucks continues, factories will continue to build them and that takes many people. Supervision is an important part of the process to maintain production schedules. Good supervisors will always be in demand.


Pre-Employment Education and Experience

A high school education is required with a four-year college degree recommended. Business management education is encouraged. Should have three to five years of experience in manufacturing. Bilingual skills are a plus.


Earnings

Depending on company, location, responsibility, earnings may start between $40,000 and $50,000 with increases dependent on performance.


Career Path

This position may be filled from an assembly position or from outside supervisory experience. These skills can easily transfer to other management positions in manufacturing, automotive repair businesses, product distributorships, and more.

Internal company education programs for internal advancement and local colleges for additional business or management training.
