Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Material Packer

Description

Packages quality coatings and other materials in a manner that enables the delivery of defect-free products to customers on time. Operates various types of filtration and filling equipment, performs in-process inspections, and maintains equipment. May assemble materials in crates or pallets for delivery, assist with inventory of product, and handle internal invoicing.

 

Personal Characteristics and Skills

Requires good reading, math, and computer skills. Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy loads. Must be detail oriented.

 

Job Outlook

Correct packing of the correct product at the time is an important part of the entire product supply chain. Materials must be available quickly and accurately to satisfy customers and remain competitive. This will continue to be a necessary occupation and stay in high demand.

 

Pre-Employment Education and Experience

A high school education is required with post-secondary education encouraged. Previous experience handling chemicals, working with paint products, or warehousing is essential.

 

Earnings

This is a technical position, requiring additional training and experience. Starting salaries can start around $35,000 to $45,000. Increased earnings follow increased abilities.

 

Career Path

This position is preceded by positions with experience in applying, selling, or mixing products in the field or distributor outlet. This can lead to management positions in the warehouse, in distributorships, or in retail businesses, including collision repair shops and new car dealers.
