Collision Industry Job Descriptions: Office Support Personnel

Description

Assists with various office duties, including customer service, cashier, receptionist, phone calls, filing, accounting, and billing. Multiple duties may have a job title of office administrator.


Personal Characteristics and Skills

Must enjoy working with people, numbers, and computers. Requires working in an office environment, close attention to detail, and patience. Must be a team player and work well with people.


Job Outlook

Businesses need a good, reliable interface with customers both by phone and in-person. As part of a customer’s experience, any phone contact must be handled well. People that can fill this need will always be in demand.


Pre-Employment Education and Experience

Reading, math, and accounting skills are essential. A high school education is preferred with post-secondary education a plus. Experience in customer service is also important.


Earnings

As an entry-level position, initial earnings around minimum wage can be expected. Increases depend on experience, work ethic, and interaction with customers.


Career Path

Advancement would include more billing or accounting duties, creating financial reports, and becoming office manager. Future positions could include another business, collision repair business, or new car dealership office.
